What is a Search Engine?
A search engine is a map of the internet. It is similar to a business directory, where you can look for businesses on specific areas of interest. Search engines aim to provide the best results, depending on relevance and popularity. Why is my website not appearing on Search Engines?
Your website may not be appearing on search engines because of the following:- It has not been visited by a robot / spider
- It has not been indexed
- It has not been submitted to a search engine site
- You have not set up pay per click (PPC)
If you have submitted your website to a search engine, it may have been banned by the search engine. This could be for a number of reasons:
- Spamming
- Illegal gateway pages
- Over use of keywords
How do I get my website to appear on Search Engines?
There are two types of listings for your website to appear on search engines:Natural Listings:
Natural listings are search engine results that have not been paid for and are the result of Search Engine Optimisation on your website. These are the results that appear under the paid for advertising links (PPC) in Google and Yahoo.
PPC (Pay Per Click):
These listings have a cost to them. Keywords are purchased at different rates, and as a visitor types in the keyword you have placed a price on (where you are listed depends on how much you pay), your listing will be displayed in order for them to click on your website. With PPC, you are only charged if a visitor clicks on your link. If a visitor does not click on your link when they do a search for a keyword you have purchased, you will not have to pay.
What is SEO (Search Engine Optimisation)?
Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) is the practice of modifying a website so that it can be properly read and indexed by search engines. Search engines such as Google send computer programs known as "spiders" or "robots" to scan your website. An optimiser's job is to understand how to these spiders find the information they are looking for on your website so the search engines can determine the value of your website and therefore increase your search engine ranking. For further information on our SEO packages please contact us via our enquiry form or call 01823 278 500.
